Turning Adversity into Opportunity: Rabecca’s Impactful Rice Farming Journey

Meet Rabecca, one of the 500 hardworking women participating in Njira Impact’s HELP Approach, a model designed to empower women with financial access, skills, and opportunities to build stable livelihoods.
Earlier this year, Rabecca made a bold decision—she invested MWK 90,000 into rain-fed rice farming on her 1-acre piece of land. The season was tough. Poor rains threatened her harvest, and many farmers in her area suffered heavy losses. But through determination and smart farming practices, Rabecca managed to harvest 20 bags of rice. For her, this was more than a harvest—it was proof that her effort, resilience, and willingness to learn could overcome even the hardest conditions.
Encouraged by her success, Rabecca applied for a MWK 150,000 loan through her HELP group to begin winter rice farming. Today, her winter crop stands tall and nearly ready for harvest. With a promising yield ahead, she is on track to earn even more profit—income that will help her improve her household, support her children, and reinvest in her farming business.
Through Njira Impact, women like her are creating sustainable livelihoods, gaining confidence, and leading change within their communities.” This is what happens when women are given the right tools, opportunities, and trust—they rise, they grow, and they build resilience not only for themselves but for generations to come”.She said.
